Butterfly Effect

Movie critics suck. Some of my favorite movies are universally panned by most critics. I just don't get it. Some examples include:
Super Troopers (35% on Rotten Tomatoes) This film is comedy at it's finest. Site gags, great lines, hilarious situations, etc. I have no idea why a movie that made my cry because I was laughing so hard deserves a 35%. I guess my taste in humor isn't on par with the critics.
The LadyKillers (57% on Rotten Tomatoes) Alright, it wasn't as good as O Brother, Where Art Thou?, but this was an excellent film indeed. There really wasn't anything wrong with this film. It was funny, witty and well acted. Tom Hanks people, Tom freakin' Hanks.
Pitch Black (52% on Rotten Tomatoes) An excellent sci-fi thriller than spawned one of the coolest bad-ass protagonists we've seen in a while. Great action, good story, and excellent CGI. What's not to like?
The whole reason I bring this up is because I just saw the Butterfly Effect. It was an excellent film that was poorly reviewed for some reason. This film was clever and original (at least I thought it was). Ashton Kutcher actually performed well as a serious character, although the actors that played his younger self carried much of the film. Anyhow, I highly recommend this film and I highly discourage you from believing movie critics. They must've worn blindfolds and ear plugs when viewing this film.

The Late Great Calvin
|
Bill Watterson where are you? The man left the scene at the height of his greatness and disappeared into the ether. There are tons of sites out there that talk about Watterson's retirement, many of which elude to his unhappiness with the publishers of his comic and his disdain for marketing products based on his strip. Well, whatever his reasons are, I hope he's enjoying life as much as I still enjoy his comics. Borders had many of the Calvin and Hobbes compilations on sale for $6.99. I promptly picked up two books and have thoroughly enjoyed reading them. In fact, it's most interesting to note that I haven't read a comic strip since Calvin and Hobbes stopped appearing in the Sunday paper. Sigh.
The new 3rdedition.org website is looking good. I've made a few changes to things based on peoples suggestions today. Overall, the response is positive although some folks feel the forums are too wide for 800x600 browsers. Come on people! Out of the stone age already!
