Apple Valley Fire District Web Site
I just completed a project making a web site for the Apple Valley Fire Protection District where my mom works. My good pal Mike did the graphic design and I did the coding, including a database driven content management system. It's all pretty simple, but it came out really nice. Check it out.

Theater With a Home Around It
It's no secret that I'm a big fan of movies. I grew up in a household where renting 10 movies at a time and watching them all over the weekend was a weekly occurance. My passion for movies runs rampant to this very day. This weekend, I upgraded my speakers (crappy Bose AM7's, to some beautiful Boston Acoustics VR3's (pictured left). My plan included replacing the entire front sound stage and moving my existing AM7's to the rear (until I have the money to replace them). I've been looking at various speakers for a long time, and this weekend I spent about 4 hours listening to 10 or 12 different models. I listened to the BA VR1, VR2, and VR3's and decided the VR3 was the clear winner. Then I compared the VR3 against 5 different models of Definitive Technology speakers. While some of the DefTechs were very nice, they just didn't compare to the VR3's. To be fair, the VR3's were a little above the DefTech tier I was comparing them too. I'm sure that DefTech makes much better sounding speakers than the ones I heard, but the VR3's were on clearance and the floor model was even further reduced. In the end, I took home the floor models, plus a Boston Acoustics VRC for a matched center.
Naturally, I couldn't upgrade my speakers without moving my entire home theater into our larger room. This meant unhooking every component, rearranging every piece of furniture in our two largest rooms, remounting speakers, etc. Luckily, Chibbs and Kyle showed up to assist with the grunt work (I owe you guys a steak dinner!). The end result was awesome and we spent the next couple hourse demoing the new speakers and enjoying the new theater room. On Sunday, Rebecca and I purchased drapes for all of the windows in the family room so the theater could be darkened appropriately. The fireplace in the room is a nice touch and kept me warm as we watched Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. I am very pleased with the speakers and the new setup. I'll post pictures as soon as I can.
