Christmas
|
Wow did I get a lot of loot. We're talking serious treasure. First and foremost, I got an iPod 4G (20GB) from my mom and Thom. I also got 4 Dork Tower compendiums, Frey (a comic series by Joss Whedon), America (the Daily Show book), Reno 911 First Season, Shindlers List, Halo 2 for the Xbox, clothes, and a bunch of other stuff too long to list here.
It was a great Christmas morning and the kids are having a blast with their new CD player and Disney CDs. All the kids got new bed sets, dolls, teddy bears, and clothes. They are very excited.
Rebecca and I got Thom a Mandolin with a case and a few DVDs (I Robot, Spiderman 2, Collateral, and Band of Brothers). We got mom The Sims 2 for the computer, the complete Lord of the Rings trilogy extended edition box set, the first season of Carnivale on DVD, Shrek 1 and Shrek 2.
Let us not forget the meaning of Christmas. God sent his only begotten Son to die for us so that we might live.

Light Went Kaput
|
So the Christmas lights are up. Hey that reminds me... my friend Chris hates it when I start sentences with "so". Ha! So, back to what I was saying. The Christmas lights are finished, sort of. I think I had to many strands plugged back to back or something because an entire strand of lights went kaput right after I added some nice 18" tall trees to the front yard. That strand was powering about 5 other strands so they went out as well. I couldn't get the first strand to light up again at all. I rearranged the power sources for the lights and go back up and running sans the first strand. Now I have to decide whether to replace the strand (which I'm too lazy to too I think) or just leave it. Yep... just leaving it.
However, as I pulled into the driveway on my way home last night I noticed that the red bow on my fence was no longer lit up. What the heck is up with that? Sigh. I suppose I should go take care of it and start replacing bulbs one by one to figure out where the problem is. I certainly don't want to look like white trash with a half lit up yard!

Crazy Busy
|
I've been so busy lately (read: working my butt off during the day and playing WoW at night) that I haven't had time to get many things done, the least of which is updating this blog. Work was so hectic this week that I was only able to eat lunch on one day. I've somehow been put in charge of installing the new financial application which is, to coin one my own phrases, "less than optimal". However, the nights recently have been fun as I hack and slash my way through World of Warcraft. It is wicked fun and is pure murder on free time.
I have one more week of work to get through and then I am off for two weeks in a row. Naturally I am on-call one of those weeks but it shouldn't be too bad (I hope). Tomorrow I am going to get the rest of the Christmas lights up and I will likely purchase a few more to "polish" the whole look. There are a few areas that are lacking. The garage door needs something on it. I am thinking about a large lit snowflake or something. I am also thinking about getting those little 2 ft tall christmas tree path liners to, er, light the path.
Mom and Thom coming up next weekend and will be staying with us for a week or so. The kids are so excited that they talk about it every day, reminding me that Grandma and Grandpa are coming in case it slipped my mind, which of course I act like it did. "Grandma's coming! Holy moly, why didn't you tell me before?!" I love messing with my kids heads. :) I learned everything about playing pshychological games with my kids from two of the best: Bill Watterson and Bill Cosby.

Christmas
|
Christmas is my favorite time of year. I love the music, the lights, and of course the gifts. What I have noticed that is lacking from Christmas this year is Jesus. Here we are celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior and it's next to impossible to find reference to Him anywhere. We bought our Christmas lights at Fred Meyer and they didn't have a single item related to Him. No wrapping paper, no ornaments, no lights, no snowglobes, no pictures, no trinkets, no nothing. If you want Santa, Elves, or Frosty, you're covered. It really is a huge disappointment to find that there isn't room for our Creator in capital America.
I did get most of the lights up on the house. I still have some lights to put up on the second floor roof and one set on the front fence. We even bought a small tree for the front yard although the lights were poorly placed on it. I guess I'll fix that this weekend. The tree inside the house though is awesome and I think it's my favorite tree so far. We hung all 8 stockings above the fireplace and put the bazillion presents under the tree already. We still have several gifts to wrap, but we're almost done with the shopping.
